Uji Kualitatif Kandungan Formalin pada Ikan Patin dengan Menggunakan Pereaksi Asam Kromatofat di UPT. Laboratorium Kesehatan Provinsi Sumatera Utara

Abstract

Qualitative testing of formalin content in catfish samples using chromatogenic acid reagent was carried out. This research aims to identify the formaldehyde content in catfish obtained from UPT. Laboratorium Kesehatan North Sumatra Province. The method used was a qualitative test for formalin content using chromatopathic acid reagent, where by carrying out simple distillation as a preliminary stage for sample preparation. Distillation is the process of separating components from two or more liquids based on differences in speed and ease of evaporation of each component. The results of this research show that the catfish samples that were tested at the UPT Laboratorium Kesehatan North Sumatra Province did not contain formalin or the results were negative, which means catfish are safe for consumption among the public.Catfish is a popular freshwater fishery commodity in Indonesia. However, the use of formalin as an animal feed preservative in catfish cultivation is still often found. Formalin contains formaldehyde, a carcinogenic compound that is dangerous to human health. Therefore, it is important to test the formalin content of catfish to ensure food safety. Overall, I am interested in the title "Qualitative Test of Formalin Content in Patin Fish Using Chromatofat Reagent" because this topic is important and interesting for those who like to eat catfish which has a significant impact on public health, and uses simple and easy research methods to detect the presence of formaldehyde in food. It is hoped that this research can make a positive contribution in increasing public awareness about food safety and encouraging safe and healthy consumption of catfish.
