The Effectiveness of the Narcotics Anonymous (NA) Program in Promoting the Recovery of Drugs Residents in Medan Plus Stakoetoe Serenity
Abstract
Currently, drugs are a global problem, including in Indonesia. Therefore,
the Indonesian government is working hard to stop drug abuse through law
enforcement and rehabilitation. Based on Article 54 of Law Number 35 of 2009
concerning Narcotics, recovery and prevention of drug reuse is carried out
through medical and social rehabilitation. Rehabilitation homes are present in the
role of social rehabilitation using various methods such as Therapeutic
Community (TC), Narcotics Anonymous (NA), herbal medicine, and religious
approaches. Because of the important role of rehabilitation, this research
discusses one of the existing rehabilitation programs and homes with the title the
effectiveness of the Narcotics Anonymous (NA) program in Stakoetoe Medan Plus
Serenity. The key informants in this research were the program coordinator,
program staff, and the main informants were residents who were undergoing
rehabilitation and actively participating in NA meetings. Data collection
techniques were carried out through interviews, observation and documentation,
and analyzed qualitatively. The research results show that the NA program at
Medan Plus Stakoetoe Serenity is effective in achieving goals, on time, as well as
increasing understanding and bringing about real change and this program is
successful in encouraging resident recovery as seen from no more drug use,
avoiding crime, adopting a healthy lifestyle, and increase productivity.
