Adaptasi Budaya pada Mahasiswa Penerima Beasiswa Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) Universitas Sumatera Utara

Abstract

This research is entitled "Cultural Adaptation in Students Receiving Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) Scholarships at the University of North Sumatra". The research method is descriptive qualitative. The purpose of the study was to determine the phase of cultural adaptation passed by IISMA Scholarship Recipient Students of the University of North Sumatra, obstacles and efforts to overcome cultural adaptation passed by IISMA Scholarship Recipient Students of the University of North Sumatra. The theory used is the Phase of Cultural Adaptation by Kalervo Oberg developed by Young Yun Kim. The informants in this study were students of the University of North Sumatra who received IISMA scholarships totaling six people and one triangulation informant. This research applies purposive sampling technique. The data collection technique carried out was through in-depth interviews. Researchers conducted a series of data analysis techniques, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that there are phases that students go through in the process of cultural and language adaptation, social life, and culture shock are obstacles that require solutions in the process of cultural adaptation carried out by IISMA scholarship recipients.
