A Description of Meaning in The Text Translated By The Tribun Medan Online Platform from Daily Star International News

Abstract

This study aims to describe the kinds of translation methods, stages of translation, and linguistic aspect that influence the equivalence of meaning in the translation of international news texts from the Daily Star to Tribun Medan. The method used in this study is a qualitative method by collecting data from various sources, such as journals, theses, and books. The theory used in this study is translation theory. The results of the study show that the writer used four kinds of translation methods, namely literal translation, free translation, communicative translation, and semantic translation. Additionally, the writer went through three main stages: reviewing, transferring, and restructuring. The linguistic aspects influencing the transferring of meaning are also highlighted, covering vocabulary, grammar, syntax, and writing style. This study reveal that the writer alternately employed various translation methods, followed the recommended stages, and considered linguistic aspects to produce accurate and comprehensible translations for Indonesian readers with preserving the original meaning from the source text.
