Representasi Feminisme pada Series Netflix ”Gadis Kretek” (Analisis Semiotika Roland Barthes)

Abstract

This research is entitled "Representation of Feminism in the Netflix Series "Gadis Kretek" (Semiotic Analysis of Roland Barthes)". The aim of this research is to find out how the representation of feminism is displayed in the Gadis Kretek series, to find the signs and meanings of each scene in the “Gadis Kretek” series. This research uses qualitative research methods with a semiotic approach. The theories and concepts used are feminism, gender, patriarchal culture, series and semiotic theory from Roland Barthes. Data was obtained through observation by watching series on Netflix, then documentation by screenshotting scenes that contain elements of feminism. The results of this research show that there are scenes that depict the representation of feminism in the “Gadis Kretek” series. The representation of feminism can be seen from the signs and meanings which are examined through Roland Barthes' semiotic theory. Through the “Gadis Kretek” series, it can be seen that there is resistance from women who are still in an environment of feminism and patriarchal culture. Resistance, resistance in series and films can be seen in the media as a means of struggle to overthrow initial assumptions in culture.
