    Abstract
Water contains various chemicals that can have positive or negative effects on the human body and other creatures. The environmental conditions of the water source also affect the characteristics of the water, so that the chemicals contained in it such as ammonia, free ammonia, chloride, nitrate, and nitrite can vary, as well as their levels. Nitrite comes from corrosive materials and is widely used in factories. Nitrite is very dangerous for the human body, especially for infants under the age of 3 months, because it can cause methaemoglobinemia, a condition in which nitrite will bind to blood haemoglobin (Hb). This study was conducted to analyze nitrite levels in clean water at the Balai Laboratorium Kesehatan Masyarakat (BLKM) Medan and to compare nitrite levels in clean water with the quality standards of Permenkes No. 2 Tahun 2023. Nitrite levels were analyzed by Spectrophotometric method using UV-Vis Spectrophotometer. From this study, the results of the analysis of nitrite levels from clean water samples on test samples 0024, 0033, 0069, 0070, 0071, 0072 were 0.006 mg/L, 0.003 mg/L, 0.221 mg/L, 0.184 mg/L, 0.237 mg/L, and 0.147 mg/L respectively. The nitrite levels tested in the six clean water samples meet the quality standards in accordance with Permenkes No. 2 of 2023 concerning drinking water quality standards which is 3 mg/L.
