Introduction: Breast cancer is a malignancy in the breast tissue and is the cancer that most often attacks women. As a cytokine pro-tumorigenic, IL-6 has been studied extensively, with IL-6 levels found to be elevated in many solid tumors including breast cancer, which correlates with poor prognosis and metastasis. Women with a history of breast cancer are at greater risk of experiencing anxiety disorders and can trigger inflammatory mechanisms that result in poorer quality of life. The potential role of inflammatory cytokines in the pathogenesis of mental disorders has attracted the attention of researchers in recent years. In addition, there is a fairly consistent correlation between increased inflammatory cytokines and the presence of anxiety symptoms. Methods: This study is a correlative analytical study with a cross-sectional design on 59 patients suffering from breast cancer at H. Adam Malik General Hospital, Medan. The sampling method was carried out using the consecutive sampling method. Data were analyzed using the SPSS 26.0 program to determine the relationship between IL-6 levels and quality of life on anxiety syndrome in advanced breast cancer patients. Data normality test using the Kolmogorov- Smirnov test. Data analysis uses the Pearson Correlation test if the data is normally distributed, and the Spearman Correlation test if the data is not normally distributed. Results: Of 59 patients with breast cancer, the average age of women was 51.14 ± 7.26 years with a median duration of suffering from breast cancer of 3 years. Subjects in this study had a mean IL-6 level of 3.37 ± 2.72 pg/mL. There is a positive correlation between IL-6 and anxiety syndrome (r=0.584; p<0.001). There is a negative correlation between quality of life and anxiety syndrome (r=- 0.668; p<0.001). Conclusion: There is a moderate positive relationship and correlation between IL-6 levels and anxiety syndrome in advanced breast cancer patients. Apart from that, there is a strong negative relationship and correlation between quality of life and anxiety syndrome in advanced breast cancer patients at H. Adam Malik General Hospital, Medan.en_US
