Introduction: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common cancers in men and women worldwide, representing approximately 10% of the global cancer incidence. There is increasing evidence of impaired quality of life in CRC patients compared to the general population in terms of physical, emotional and social functioning. Several studies have examined psychological distress or the relationship between symptoms of Anxiety and Depression and quality of life in patients with different types of cancer. Quality of life is a multidimensional concept that assesses various domains of cancer patients and is used as a measure of treatment outcomes for cancer patients and is related to patient mortality.
Methods: This study is a correlative analytic study with a cross sectional design in 76 patients with colorectal cancer at H. Adam Malik Hospital Medan. The sampling method was done by consecutive sampling method. Data were analysed with the SPSS 26.0 program to determine the relationship of depressive syndrome and anxiety levels to quality of life in colorectal cancer patients at H. Adam Malik Medan Hospital. Data normality test usingKolmogorov Smirnov. Data analysis using Spearman's test.
Results: Of the 76 patients with colorectal cancer, the mean age was 49.26 ± 10.079 years with a median length of colorectal cancer of 2 years. There was a negative correlation between anxiety level and quality of life ( 0.745; p<0.001). There was a negative correlation between depressive syndrome and quality of life ( 0.819; p<0.001).
Conclusion: There is a strong relationship and correlation between depressive syndrome and anxiety levels to quality of life in colorectal cancer patients at H. Adam Malik Hospital Medan.
