    Abstract
Objective : To determine the correlation between Platelet, Mean Platelet Volume, and Platelet Distribution Width with Parasitemia index in malaria patients at Haji Adam Malik General Hospital Medan Method : This study was a retrospective analytical observational study with a cross sectional approach. Total samples were 54 positive infected with Plasmodium sp. during January 2022 – December 2023 at Haji Adam Malik General Hospital Medan. Sampling was carried out by total sampling. Data were analyzed using the Pearson/Spearman correlation test and T-test Student/Mann Whitney difference test. Results : Fifty four sample study were included, 38 samples were dominated by men (70.4%), 26 samples were aged 18 - 40 years (48.2%) and 45 samples were Plasmodium vivax (83.3%). Platelet’s mean of falciparum malaria was lower than non-falciparum (69000 ± 59383.49 /μL; 83021.74 ± 48244.05 /μL). The median of MPV, PDW and parasitemia index in falciparum malaria were higher than nonfalciparum {MPV 11.6 (10.5 – 13.7) fL; 11.1 (8.7 – 14.8) fL}, {PDW 15.1 (11.3 – 22.7) %; 13.1 (8.2 – 22.1) %}, and {PI 8098.75 (128 – 147019) /μL;1853.00 (70.5 – 19854) /μL}. Conclusion : There is a weak correlation between the PLT, MPV, PDW values and the parasitemia index in malaria patients but it is not significant (p-value > 0.05). There are no differences value of PLT, MPV, PDW and parasitemia index between falciparum and non falciparum malaria groups (p-value > 0.05).
