The Relationship between Chronic Kidney Failure Patients Experiencing Hearing Function Disorders
Abstract
Background: The etiology of hearing loss associated with chronic renal failure (CRF). Mechanisms that might happen is a change in osmotic resulting in loss of hair cells, collapse endolymphatic space, edema and atrophy of supporting cells, as well as the possibility of exposure of cellulose acetate membrane of dialyzer used lead acetate degradation products get into the bloodstream.
Objective: To determine the association between chronic renal failure patients with impaired hearing.
Methods: This study was an observational analytic with cross-sectional approach. Respondents in this study were patients undergoing hemodialysis with impaired hearing at Adam Malik Hospital began June 1, 2013 until December 31, 2013. Sampling was done by total sampling technique and taken 100 respondents who meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data Data collection is done by interview and tuning fork tests. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 17.0.
Results: The results were obtained is a relationship between chronic renal failure patients with impaired hearing is as much as 29 people (29.0%) with impaired hearing function when there is no disturbance of hearing as many as 79 people (79.0%).
Conclusion: The results of the study, impaired hearing probably caused due to hemodialysis or history of other diseases.
