This study investigated the effect of flux spread on mitred and butted
junctions in transformer cores using QuickField 6.6 Student Edition simulation
application. This research focuses on understanding how different connection
configurations impact magnetic field distribution and overall transformer
performance. The simulation involves creating detailed geometric models of
transformer cores, including mitred and butted junctions, with relevant material
properties using Cold Rolled Grain Oriented (CRGO) silicon steel. The magnetic
field is simulated under certain loading conditions to analyze the flux spread inside
the transformer core.
The results revealed an understanding of magnetic field patterns, flux
concentrations, and potential losses associated with mitred and butted junctions.
This study compared two types of modeling, the first testing with thermal flux then
the second using the QuickField 6.6 Student Edition application.
The distribution of Mitred connection flux, Flux Density (B) is 1.6921 T and
Strength (H) is 336.62 A/m. As for the Butted Flux Density (B) connection of 1.1701
T and Strength (H) of 332.78 A / m. So the QuickField 6.6 Student Edition
application can help researchers to see the better flux distribution of both
connection types. Then it can provide transformer core geometry information and
hysterical curves.
