Penerapan Principal Component Analysis (PCA) Berdasarkan Karekteristik Aliran Lalu Lintas untuk Memahami Kemacetan di Kota Medan

Abstract

Traffic congestion is a major problem in many major cities in Indonesia. The main contributing factors to congestion include the growth in the number of vehicles that is not balanced with road infrastructure and the increase in the number of public transportation. Government efforts, such as the implementation of one-way systems, have not had a significant impact. This study used the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) method to identify the factors causing congestion. The PCA results revealed two main components. The first component, "Transportation Infrastructure and Population Mobility," includes the variables of population, road area, number of cars, and number of motor vehicles. The second component, "Public Transportation and Road Infrastructure Growth," includes the variables number of AKDP routes, number of public transport vehicles, and road length growth. These two main components explain 87.91% of the variability in the data, indicating that they are sufficient to explain important aspects of the transportation and population mobility data. These results provide a solid basis for further analysis and more effective solutions to congestion.
