The Role of the Lembaga Kesejahteraan Sosial Lanjut Usia (LKS-LU) Yayasan Roasro in Fulfilling the Needs of the Elderly
Abstract
The phenomenon of the elderly often occurs and is a population problem that has not yet become a serious concern. The elderly are a group that is vulnerable to experiencing various problems such as due to the aging process, decreased activity ability due to retirement and physical limitations, loneliness in living partners and socially the interaction and role of the elderly is reduced. At the age of vulnerability, the needs of the elderly are increasing and must be met, if not fulfilled, it will cause problems. Lembaga Kesejahteraan Sosial Lanjut Usia (LKS-LU) Yayasan Roasro, an institution that provides elderly social services outside the institution that can help pay attention to how the elderly live. LKS-LU Yayasan Roasro plays a role in fulfilling the needs of the elderly such as physical-biological needs, mental-psychological needs, social needs and assistive device needs. This research was conducted at the Lembaga Kesejahteraan Sosial Lanjut Usia (LKS-LU) Yayasan Roasro. The main informants in this study were three elderly people fostered at the Lembaga Kesejahteraan Sosial Lanjut Usia (LKS-LU) Yayasan Roasro. Additional informants are two families of the elderly fostered by the institution. As well as key informants namely the chairman of the LKS-LU Yayasan Roasro and elderly companions. Data collection techniques are carried out by observation, interview, and documentation. The data obtained in the field is then analyzed by researchers who are explained qualitatively until finally conclusions can be drawn from the research results. The results showed that the role of the Lembaga Kesejahteraan Sosial Lanjut Usia (LKS-LU) Yayasan Roasro in meeting the needs of the elderly includes a facilitative role in the form of facilities related to physical-biological, mental-psychological, social, and assistive needs. The educational role provides information and awareness to maintain health, provide skills and religious training related to physical-biological, mental-psychological, and social needs. The representational role of the institution becomes a representative for the elderly to interact with other elderly institutions, becoming an extension of the institution such as meeting the needs of assistive devices. Finally, the technical role of the institution records and analyzes the problems of the elderly.
