| dc.description.abstract | Background: The ethanol extract of poguntano herb (EEHP) is suspected to have protective activity against hematological and clinical biochemical parameters in liver of doxorubicin-induced rats due to its potent antioxidant properties.
Objective: This study aims to determine the protective activity of EEHP against hematological and clinical biochemical parameters in liver of doxorubicin-induced rats.
Method: The phases of generating simplicia, characterizing simplicia, producing an ethanol extract of poguntano herb using the maceration method with 70% ethanol solvent, screening for phytochemicals, and testing on experimental animals. The rats were split into seven groups: normal, 50 mg/kgBW of doxorubicin, 50 mg/kgBW of quercetin, and 50, 100, 200, and 400 mg/kgBW of ethanol extract of poguntano herb. Oral therapy was administered to rats for nine days. Doxorubicin was injected intravenously on days 8 and 9. The rats were dissected on the tenth day, and blood was extracted from the heart for hematological analysis. A portion of the blood was also centrifuged to obtain serum for a clinical biochemistry analysis.
Results: The results showed that administration of EEHP doses of 50, 100, 200, 400 mg/kgBW could improve hematological parameters by increasing hemoglobin, hematocrit, leukocytes, erythrocytes, platelets, segmented neutrophils, lymphocytes, eosinophils, basophils, and decreasing monocyte values, and could also decrease ALT, AST, and total bilirubin values compared to the negative group (p < 0.05).
Conclusion: EEHP has protective activity by improving hematological parameters and decreasing clinical biochemical parameters in liver of doxorubicin-induced rats. | en_US |
