Research on the morphology, crystallinity, and electrical conductivity analysis of
coconut shell (Cocos nucifera L.) graphene nano sheet using pyrolysis method was
conducted. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of temperature and
time of the second pyrolysis on the quality of GNS produced. This research is a
laboratory experimental and descriptive research. Graphene nano sheet was
synthesized using the pyrolysis method by varying the temperature and time of the
second pyrolysis (P2). Then, GNS produced from each variation is characterized by
XRD, SEM-EDX, FTIR and multimeter. The results showed quite sharp and slightly
broadened peaks at 2θ = 23.8o
and 44.5o
from the variations of T2 = 500 ℃ and t2 =
2 hours. The results of XRD analysis are also well synchronized by the results of
SEM-EDX analysis where the variation shows the highest percentage of carbon with
morphology similar to honeycomb and hexagonal structure. Both data are further
clarified by the results of FTIR analysis, which shows the presence of typical
functional groups of graphene in the form of C=C (aromatic) in the 1500 - 1675 cm-1
absorption region with medium weak intensity. The electrical conductivity data also
show that the obtained GNS is capable of conducting electric current. Overall, the
results of this study indicate that pyrolysis temperature and time greatly affect the
GNS produced and the GNS obtained shows good characteristics indicated by its
ability to conduct electric current and as an energy storage.
