dc.description.abstract | Research has been conducted on the manufacture and characterization of
Fe3O4/SiO2 mixture using the coprecipitation method. This research is applied as an
adsorbent on methylene blue. The mixing process begins with the activation of SiO2
with ZnCl2 activator and then mixing Fe3O4 with SiO2 that has been activated with
each Fe3O4:SiO2:ZnCl2 mass ratio, is 4:2:10%, 4:2:15%, 4:2:20%, 4:2:25%,
4:2:30% and 4:2:35%. Then characterization was carried out, namely testing
elemental content with X-Ray Flourisence (XRF), testing morphology and elemental
distribution with Scanning Electron Microscope-Energy Dispersive X-Ray
Spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), testing crystal structure with X-Ray Diffraction (XRD),
testing functional groups with Fourier Transform-InfraRed (FT-IR), testing magnetic
properties with Vibrating Sample Magnometer and testing methylene blue adsorption
with UV-Vis. The results of analysis using XRF show that there is an elemental Fe
content of 90%. The results of the analysis using SEM showed a spherical morphology
with Fe3O4 coating SiO2, and with EDS testing showed the content of Fe, Si, C. O, Zn
and Cl elements. The results of analysis using XRD show the crystal size of the
Fe3O4/SiO2 mixture with ZnCl2 activator (10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, 30%, 35%)
sequentially 35.54 nm, 42.85 nm, 42.861 nm, 42.864 nm, 42.861 nm and 35.548 nm.
The results of analysis using FT-IR obtained Si-O-Si and Fe-O functional groups at
wave numbers 806.17 cm-1 and 574 cm-1, respectively. The results of the analysis using
VSM that the optimum condition of the magnetic properties produced is
superparamagnetic and included in the soft magnetic which is in the Fe3O4/SiO2
mixture with ZnCl2 10% with a coercivity value of 184 Oe, a saturation value of 16.04
emu/g and a remanence value of 0.11 emu/g. The results of analysis using UV-Vis with
a maximum wavelength of 664 nm obtained an adsorption efficiency value of 82% and
can be applied as a methylene blue adsorbent. | en_US |
