dc.description.abstract | The composite used as a four-wheeled vehicle door impact damper (weather strip) is made from a mixture of synthetic rubber Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) with Natural Rubber SIR-20 (NR SIR-20) which is added with activated charcoal from palm oil shells. The manufacturing process involves vulcanization of EPDM synthetic rubber and SIR-20 natural rubber, with the addition of additives and active palm shell charcoal filler. Using the reflux method at a temperature of 150°C, then printed using a hot press at a temperature of 140°C. The optimum final results were obtained in the EPDM/NR variation: Palm shell activated charcoal 20:80:40 phr with results for tensile strength showing a value of 1.914 MPa, an elongation value of 337.35%, and an impact value producing the highest value of 11,752 J /m². Next, the optimum polymer blend was characterized using FTIR, SEM, and TGA tests. FTIR analysis shows that vulcanization by sulfur occurs on the rubber alloy, forming vulcanized rubber at a wave number of 2922 cm-1 which forms C-H groups and shows the presence of C=O group vibrational bonds at a new peak of 1699 cm-1 and is characteristic of active carbon. Thermal stability analysis with TGA showed quite good thermal stability properties at a temperature of 54,.11°C and experienced a weight change of 64,45% and a residue content of 34,88%. The SEM analysis results show that there is agglomeration at several points due to the nature of the filler material. | en_US |
