Effectiveness Nitrogen-Doped Carbon Dots (N-CDs) using Solvothermal Method from Jackfruit Peel as Photodegradation Congo Red
Abstract
Dyes have become a significant source of water pollution, with percentages 1-15 of dye lost as pollutants during the dyeing process. One of the dyes usually used by textile induction is Congo Red (CR). The solution is needed for the reduction of pollutants from Congo Red by synthesizing the photocatalyst as photodegradation. Carbon Dots (CDs) is a device that can be used as a photocatalyst for the photocatalytic process of degradation. In the study conducted an analysis of the effectiveness of photodegradation N-CDs from extract ethanol of jackfruit peels with an addition of ethylenediamine (EDA) as nitrogen doping. In the first stage, the production of extract ethanol of jackfruit peels. In the second stage, the synthesis of Carbon Dots (CDs) and Nitrogen-Doped Carbon Dots (N-CDs) using solvothermal method. In the third stage, photodegradation Congo Red using N-CDs 8 watt UV light radiation with varying exposure times, namely 1, 3, 5, and 6 hours. The results of the research show that the CDs and N-CDs have been susccesfully synthesized. CDs and N-CDs obtained had a blue and turquoise color under a 365 nm UV lamp. UV-Vis analysis, CDs had an absorption peak of 236 nm, while N-CDs had an absorption peak of 243 nm. FTIR analysis of all samples showed the presence of O-H, C-H, C=C and C-O. N-CDs have a N-H and C-N group which indicates Nitrogen has been successfully doped on the N-CDs surface. Band Gap Energy CDs dan N-CDs is 2,53 and 2,28 eV. PL test results show that adding nitrogen doped can increase the emission wavelength of CDs and N-CDs from 494 nm to 498 nm with quantum yield of 47.83% and 77.66%. Analysis by TEM showed spherical particles measuring 6.94 nm. The results of showed the highest degradation from analysis UV-Vis is at 83.5% at 5 hours variation. From this study, it was concluded that N-CDs can be an ideal photodegradation material for Congo Red.
