Fear of spiders, or also known as arachnophobia, is a specific type of phobia in which
the patients have severe anxiety over spiders. One of the methods in battling
arachnophobia is in vivo exposure therapy, where the patients handle the core of the
phobia face to face. But with this specific method, chances are patients will be afraid,
causing the therapy to fail. To minimalize this outcome, virtual reality exposure therapy
can be done, patients would feel less afraid, because they would face the core of the
phobia through a Head Mounted Device. In this research, the virtual reality world will
be build using Unity 3D as the game engine, and Blender as the 3D modeller. Testing
with the Reliable Change Scale (RCI), where the patient would be tested based on pretesting
and post-testing, where the changes are realiable if the score reaches 1.96 or
greater. Results of testing shows that the patient reached the score of 3.32, which shows
great progress in overcoming Arachnophobia, which suggests that Virtual Reality is
capable as a tool for Arachnophobia therapy.
