The problem of preventing drug abuse, especially among adolescents, is a very worrying threat to a nation. Based on the Indonesia Drugs Report 2022 released by the Data and Information Research Center of the National Narcotics Agency (Puslitdatin BNN), the prevalence of the number of people aged 15-65 years who are exposed to drugs or have at least used them in 2021 is 4.8 million people. This figure increased compared to 2019, which amounted to 4.5 million people. The National Narcotics Board of North Sumatra Province has a very important role in prevention efforts given the high prevalence of drug abuse in North Sumatra.
This research uses descriptive research with a qualitative approach. Data collection used by researchers is by interview techniques, observation and documentation as research support. The data obtained were analyzed using the role theory proposed by Jam Ife and Frank Tesoriero (2008), namely the Facilitative Role, Educational Role, Representative Role, and Technical Role.
The results of this study indicate that the role of the North Sumatra Provincial Narcotics Board in preventing drug abuse for adolescents has been running well, but not yet optimal. There are still obstacles in the application of group facilitator indicators because in conducting socialization there are constraints on the shortage of employees in charge of being instructors, socialization is not carried out evenly throughout drug-prone areas, and there are still budget limitations seen in the resource indicators in the representational role.
