Abstract

Hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, is a disorder of the blood vessels that results in the obstruction of oxygen and nutrient supply to the body's tissues in need Family support encompasses the attitudes, actions, and acceptance of family members towards their relatives, manifested through emotional support, instrumental support, informational support, and appreciation support. This study aims to analyze the relationship between family support among the Batak Toba ethnic group and the compliance of elderly individuals undergoing hypertension treatment. The research utilizes a quantitative research design with a cross-sectional approach The population consists of 215 respondents. The sampling technique employed in this research is non-probability sampling, specifically Purposive Sampling. Data analysis employs the chi-square test to examine the relationship between family support and compliance among elderly individuals undergoing hypertension treatment. The results indicate a significant relationship between emotional support (p = 0.012; < 0.05), instrumental support (P Value= 0.037; < 0.05), informational support (P Value = 0.026; < 0.05), appreciation support (p = 0.028; < 0.05) from Batak Toba families and the compliance of elderly individuals undergoing hypertension treatment. In conclusion, there exists a relationship between emotional, instrumental, informational, and appreciation support from Batak Toba families and the compliance of elderly individuals undergoing hypertension treatment.
