dc.description.abstractForensic dentistry is a branch of forensic medicine that has now become a stand-alone science. Lip print can be used to identify forensic and non-forensic cases. The aim of this research is to find the pattern of lip print based on Suzuki and Tsuchihashi classification according to quadrant, to investigate the difference of dominant lip print pattern and in general according to different sex gender (male and female) on Malaysian with Chinese ethnicity at University of Northern Sumatra. The subject were male and female Malaysian Chinese students at University of Northern Sumatra. A sample size of 30 people, consisting 15 of each male and female students. Subject's lips were applied with lipstick and cellophane tape to lift lip print for observation. Data were analyzed by using Chi-square and T test. The results showed that Malaysian Chinese students generally have type II as dominant lip print pattern. Shown by Chi-square test, there was a significant difference between male and female lip print patterns. Although there was no significant difference in Type I, Type I' and Type II dominant lip print patterns, but there was a significant difference found in type IV. We concluded that the dominant lip print pattern of Malaysian Chinese is Type II, whereas female ones was type IV. The difference of lip print pattern between males and females lies on type IV.en_US
