dc.description.abstractMartial arts in Japan is one of the traditional cultures that has been transformed in terms of techniques and practices. Martials arts today are used for self defense skills. Form ancient traditions to modem techniques, Japanese martial arts continue to develop and evolve, one of which is the martial art of karate. This paper aims to find out the history, styles, philosophy, ethics, techniques, and belt levels of karate. This writing uses the literature method, namely by collecting reading sources such as books and the internet that exist as references related to karate. Karate is a martial art originating from Japan that uses hand and feet as tools to release the power of punches, attacks, and kicks. The rules, ethics and manners of the martial art are basedon the spirit and philosophy passed down by the people who gave birth to it. True karatekas always strive to understand and internalize the teachings and incorporate them into their daily lives as away of live.en_US
