    Abstract
Formocresol used as a pulpotomy devitalization agent is carcinogenic and toxic, therefore mangosteen peel can be used as an alternative devitalizing agent. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of mangosteen peel paste compared to formocresol as a pulp devitalization agent in wistar rats. The type of research conducted was an in vivo experiment on wistar rats with a post-test only control group design, as well as sample distribution by simple random sampling. This study used 25 molar teeth of wistar rats divided into 5 teeth each in the formocresol group as a positive control, the mangosteen peel paste treatment group with concentrations of 60%, 70%, 80%, and 90%. Each material was applied to the molar tooth cavity of the right and left maxills of the wistar rat and was crushed using Cavit-G. After 7 days of treatment, histopathological observations were carried out. Based on the results of statistical tests using Kruskal-Wallis, the results of the study stated that there was a significant difference between the control group and the treatment group. The Mann-Whitney test showed that the optimal treatment group to be used was at a concentration of 70% and the most effective treatment group was 80% mangosteen peel paste and 90% mangosteen peel paste, because the effectiveness was the same as formocresol. It can be concluded that mangosteen peel paste has the potential to be a pulp devitalization agent.
