dc.description.abstract | Auto-polymerized soft denture liner silicone is one of the most frequently used
relining materials. However, long-term use of auto-polymerizing silicone SDL can
cause bond failure between the soft liners and the denture, porosity dan changes in
surface hardness, which will cause denture stomatitis. To overcome this, prevention is
carried out by adding antifungal ingredients to the soft liners, such as oil extracted
from oregano leaves (Origanum vulgare). The aim of this research was to determine
the effect of adding Origanum vulgare extract gel to auto-polymerizing silicone soft
dentures on the inhibition zone of Candida albicans based on 1, 7 and 14 days of used.
The inhibition zone was carried out using the disc diffusion method. Research data
analysis was tested using a univariant test to determine the mean value and standard
deviation (SD) of the inhibition zone for each treatment group, a one-way ANOVA test
to determine the effect of additions, and a repeated ANOVA test to determine the effect
of usage time. The research results showed that the Minimum Inhibition Concentration
(MIC) of oregano extract using the steam distillation method is 0,781%. The results
of the univariant test showed that the mean and SD values of the inhibition zone in the
group without the addition of antifungal agents with usage of 1, 7 and 14 days
respectively were 0 mm; the nystatin gel addition group were 12.22 ± 0.17 mm, 10.77
± 0.23 mm, and 8.99 ± 0.13 mm; and the group adding oregano extract gel were 19.72
± 0.59 mm, 19.09 ± 0.43 mm, and 18.62 ± 0.41 mm. The results of the one-way ANOVA
test showed that there was an effect of adding oregano extract gel to auto-polymerized
silicone SDL on the inhibition zone of Candida albicans days based on usage of 1, 7,
and 14 with a value of p<0.001 (p<0.05). Repeated ANOVA test results showed that
there was an effect of usage of 1, 7, and 14 days on the Candida albicans inhibition zone on auto-polymerized silicone SDL with the addition of nystatin gel and with the
addition of oregano extract gel with each group's p value <0.001 (p<0.05). From the
results of this study, it can be concluded that the addition of Origanum vulgare extract
gel with MIC 0,781% to auto-polymerizing silicone SDL are more effective in
inhibiting the growth of Candida albicans compared to the addition of nystatin gel,
although the inhibition zone will decrease over time of use. | en_US |
