Desalinasi Air Payau dengan Adsorben Berbasis Zeolit Alam Pahae Teraktivasi Fisika
Brackish Water Desalination with Physically Activated Pahae Natural Zeolite Based Adsorbent
Abstract
Pahae natural zeolite-based adsorbent for brackish water desalination has been made
in order to meet the requirements of clean water quality. Pahae natural zeolite was
made with a size of 710μm (25 mesh) then washed with distilled water and dried in an
oven at 100°C for 1 hour. Pahae natural zeolite powder was physically activated with
activation temperature variation of 370oC, 400oC, 430oC, 460oC, 490oC and 520oC for
1 hour, and ready to be used as adsorbent. Pahae natural zeolite-based adsorbent was
characterized by physical properties (density, porosity, water absorption), SEM-EDX,
XRF, and XRD. XRF test results showed the purity level of zeolite increased after
physical activation. EDX test results show the dominant element content is O, Si, Al.
XRD test results showed a diffraction pattern with peaks that are not sharp, indicating
that this adsorbent is amorphous. The results of the adsorbent physical properties test
showed the optimal activation temperature at 370oC with a density value of 0.77
gr/cm3, porosity of 70.16%, and water absorption capacity of 84.2%, TDS test results
of 58.9%, and increased ph from 5.6 to 6.5 also at 370oC, but the optimum salinity
value reduction was achieved at 520oC activation temperature by 94.2%.
