University of North Sumatera has a fairly high diversity of vegetation. The cool temperature of 23℃ and a height of 2.5 – 37.5 meters above sea level does not support many types of lichenes to live in this region. However, trees as one of the lichenes substrates that are spread evenly on this region can be a supporting factor for lichenes diversity. Until now, information related to lichenes diversity in University of North Sumatera has never been reported, so that the diversity of species and compositions of the host trees is yet unknown. The purpose of this research is to analyze lichenes diversity in University on North Sumatera from January 2023 to March 2023. From this research, 8 lichenes is recorded with the value of diversity index of lichens is 1,667 or moderate diversity. The most common species based on the research is Flavoparmelia baltimorensis. The most suitable host tree for the lichenes is Swietenia mahagoni.en_US
