Abstract

Dysplasia is defined as a structural abnormality caused by abnormal cells in body tissue which is generally caused by gene mutations or changes to the DNA in cells, either in the sequence or function of the nucleotides. The gotu kola plant (Centella asiatica (L.) Urban) is a plant that has various good potentials that can be used in traditional medicine. Bioactive components obtained from gotu kola plants include triterpenoids, polyphenols, alkaloids and glycosides. Gotu Kola extract is known to exhibit high antioxidant levels and anti-proliferative activity in many cases of cancer cells. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of administering methanol extract of gotu kola leaves (Centella asiatica (L.) Urban) at a dose of 100 mg/kg BW using the microwave assisted extraction (MAE) method based on total phenol testing on the incidence of dysplasia in Wistar rats. This research is a laboratory experimental study with a sample of 20 Wistar rats (Rattus novergicus) and divided into 2 groups. In group 1, samples were given methanol extract of gotu kola leaves at a dose of 100 mg/kg BW and DMBA induction 3 times per week. Group 2 samples were only given DMBA 3 times per week. The results of dysplasia assessment in this study were analyzed using the Chi Square test. The results of this study showed that there were no significant results from administering methanol extract of gotu kola leaves (Centella asiatica(L.) Urban) at a dose of 100 mg/kg BW and those who were given only DMBA.
