Research has been conducted on the use of chitosan oligosaccharides in the formulation of lip gloss preparations as antioxidants. Lip gloss is a product that gives a glossy effect and shine to the lips, helps increase lip volume, also gives a slight color effect, feels soft and does not dry out on the lips. Chitosan oligosaccharide has attracted wide attention in the field of cosmetics. Lip gloss preparations made with the addition of chitosan oligosaccharides are able to improve the quality of the preparation as an antioxidant. Its properties as an antioxidant are interesting to develop because it can stabilize free radicals that cause dry and cracked lips. Antioxidant testing using UV-Vis Spectrophotometer with DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1- pycrilhidrazyl) method. The reaction process between antioxidant compounds and DPPH radicals occurs through the mechanism of hydrogen atom donation. This study aims to formulate a lip gloss in which chitosan oligosaccharide is added with three concentration variations, namely 1.5%, 2%, and 2.5%. The best lip gloss preparation is with the addition of 1.5% chitosan oligosaccharide. The process of making chitosan oligosaccharide lip gloss preparations using experimental methods and characterization is carried out using parameters such as homogeneity, pH, viscosity, physical stability, hedonic, irritation and antioxidant tests. The results of the evaluation of lip gloss preparations during 12 weeks of storage show that the lip gloss meets the requirements of the homogeneity test, the pH value of the lip gloss preparation is in accordance with the physiological pH requirements of lip skin, namely pH between 4.5-6.5 found in SNI 16-4399-1996. The unstable viscosity value is due to the addition of cera alba or beewax which can bind oil so that the preparation becomes thicker which can increase the viscosity value during storage. Antioxidant activity test with DPPH (2,2- diphenyl-1- pycrilhydrazyl) method obtained the greatest percent (%) of lip gloss antioxidant inhibition with the addition of 2.5% chitosan, namely 79.15%.en_US
