dc.description.abstractThe synthesis of 2-Ethylhexyl Miristate from esterification reaction of myristic acid with 2-ethylhexyl alcohol using microwave with lipase enzyme as catalyst has been conducted. The parameters studied in this study were the effect of lipase enzyme catalyst weight and molar ratio of myristic acid to 2-ethylhexyl alcohol. The confirmation of 2-ethylhexyl myristate formation was studied using FT-IR spectrophotometer while its conversion was determined by alkalimetric titration. The maximum conversion of 86.86 ± 0.57% for lipase enzyme catalyst weight parameter was achieved under reaction condition of 9% catalyst weight, 1:3 molar ratio, 10 minutes reaction time and 20% microwave power. For the parameter of molar ratio, the maximum conversion of 86.55 ± 1.56% was obtained at a ratio of 1:2, 9% catalyst weight, 10 minutes reaction time, and 20% microwave power. The formation of ester groups from the resulting 2-ethylhexyl myristate is characterized by the presence of a peak at wave number 1710 cm-1 showing stretching vibrations of carbonyl groups (C=O) indicating the presence of esters and supported by the formation of -C-O-Cester stretching vibrations at wave number 1037 cm-1.en_US
