Analisa Karakteristik Hasil Karbon Aktif dari Tempurung Kelapa Melalui Proses Pirolisis Biomassa
Analysis of Characteristics of Activated Carbon Products from Coconut Shells Through the Biomass Pyrolysis Process
Abstract
Coconut trees are one of the trees that can grow well in almost all places that have a tropical climate, especially in Indonesia. One process that can be used to reduce waste in the surrounding environment is by processing coconut shell waste using the pyrolysis method. The results obtained are in the form of activated carbon, which is a porous solid which has been widely used in sample purification. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of coconut shell activated carbon with potassium hydroxide (KOH) and Phosphic Acid (H3PO4) activators. Activated carbon is best used for household water filtration so that it is suitable for use. Based on the results of the analysis test of coconut shell activated carbon with potassium hydroxide (KOH) activator, the results were less than satisfactory, but with phosphoric acid (H3PO4) activator, the best levels were obtained, namely 1.61% for ash content, water content of 0.71%, and bound carbon. amounting to 85.34%. Based on the results of the tests that have been carried out, activated carbon is used to filtrate metal substances which can reduce iron levels by 40.5% and manganese levels by 86.9%
