Pengaruh Ekstrak Sereh Wangi (Cymbopogon nardus) sebagai Alternatif Bahan Cavity Cleanser terhadap Pertumbuhan Bakteri Streptococcus sanguinis (in Vitro)
Effect of Lemongrass Extract (Cymbopogun nardus) as an Alternative Material Cavity Cleanser Against Bacterial Growth Streptococcus sanguinis (in Vitro)
Abstract
The ideal cavity cleanser must have a low level of toxicity, be biocompatible,
antibacterial, and be able to remove the smear layer. This study aims to determine the
effect of citronella extract (cymbopogun nardus) as an alternative to Cavity cleanser
on the growth of streptococcus sanguinis bacteria by looking for KHM and KBM
values. Laboratory experimental research with a post test only control group design
using Streptococcus blood ATCC 10551 samples. The KHM and KBM values are
determined by the Misra Drop Plates Miles method. Citronella extract was diluted with
MHB through the dilution method, so that 100%, 50%, 25%, 12.5%, 6.25%, and
3.125% were obtained with 4 replications in each treatment group including
Chlorhexidine digluconate 2%, after which it was filled with 0.1 ml of bacteria, then
homogenized and incubated for 48 hours at 37°C. After that, take 0.1 ml of the solution
from the dilution procedure and then replant it into Mueller Hinton agar medium and
then incubate. The results of the Anova test showed that all concentrations of citronella
extract had the effect of killing Streptococcus blood bacteria (p<0.05). That this
citronella extract at a concentration of 6.25% to 100% has an effect on the growth of
Streptococcus blood bacteria. The LSD test results showed that the KBM value of
citronella extract was 6.25% and KHM 3.125%.
