Stainless steel orthodontic brackets are one of the frequently used components of fixed orthodontic appliances. To control the accumulation of plaque and bacteria, orthodontic treatment patients are recommended to use mouthwash. Using mouthwash can change the pH of the oral cavity to become acidic and trigger a corrosion process. One herbal mouthwash that can be an alternative is activated charcoal suspension from palm oil shells. Activated charcoal has antibacterial properties which can inhibit bacterial growth so that plaque accumulation is reduced. The aim of this study was to determine the difference in the average corrosion rate of stainless steel orthodontic brackets after being immersed in artificial saliva, 0.2% chlorhexidine, and 12% palm oil shell activated charcoal suspension for 7 and 14 days. This research is a laboratory experimental research. The research samples were 30 samples of Ormco brand stainless steel edgewise premolar orthodontic brackets and divided into 6 groups. The samples were placed in a tube containing artificial saliva, 0.2% chlorhexidine, and 12% palm oil shell activated charcoal suspension and put in an incubator at a temperature of 37°C for 7 and 14 days, then the corrosion rate was calculated using the weight loss method. The results of the research showed that the average corrosion rate respectively after immersion in artificial saliva, 0.2% chlorhexidine, and 12% palm oil shell activated charcoal suspension for 7 days was 0.675 0.224; 1.208 0.233; 0.491 0.302 mpy; and for 14 days, namely 0.501 0.259; 0.839 0.128; 0.378 0.233 mpy. Based on the research that has been carried out, there is a significant difference in the average corrosion rate between the groups of artificial saliva solution, 0.2%en_US
