Identification of Drug Related Problems in Lung Cancer Patients at Dr. Pirngadi Hospital Medan
Abstract
Background: Lung cancer is the most common cause of death from cancer
worldwide. The vast majority of lung cancer are attributable to cigarette smoking.
To improve the quality of life of patients with lung cancer, polypharmacy is
required. Polypharmacy was most often associated with the occurence of DRPs.
Objective: This research aimed to identify the incidence, number and percentage
of DRPs in management of patients with lung cancer at RSUD Dr. Pirngadi
Medan.
Method: This research uses a descriptive method which collects, analyzes and
interprets data. Data collection was carried out retrospectively with the aim of
identifying the incidence of DRPs in lung cancer patients at RSUD Dr. Pirngadi
Medan period January - December 2023. The incidence of DRPs were analyzed
based on the Cipolle classification and reliable references.
Results: The results showed, there were male 49 (79%) and female 13 (21%),
with mean age 56,5 ± 0,462 years. There were 44 patients (70.96%) experienced
DRPs with an average of DRPs were 1 cases per patient. The overall incidence of
DRPs was 143 cases, the most common DRPs occurred were adverse drug
reactions 118 cases (82,51%), followed by needs additional drug theraphy 9 cases
(6,29%), ineffective drug 9 cases (6,29%), drug without indication 6 case (4.16%),
and low dose 1 case (0.69%).
Conclusion: Incidence of DRPs in management of lung cancer is still high.
Health care practitioner should seek to minimize incidence of DRPs to improve
the therapeutic outcomes.
