Identification of Drug Related Problems in Treatment of Breast Cancer Patients Admitted to Dr. Pirngadi Hospital Medan

Background: Breast cancer is a disease caused by the growth of abnormal cells
and out of control. Breast cancer is one of the most common diseases in Indonesia.
Breast cancer and its comorbidities experienced by the patients require a complex
therapy which tends to result in Drug-Related Problems (DRPs).
Objective: This research aimed to analyze DRPs in the treatment of breast cancer
patients admitted to Dr. Pirngadi Hospital.
Method: This retrospective descriptive study was conducted using data collected
from medical records of patients with breast cancer in Dr. Pirngadi Hospital, Medan
period January 2023-December 2023 (n = 65). The incidence of DRPs were
analyzed based on Cipolle category and other reliable references.
Results: The results showed that 35 of 65 breast cancer patients admitted to Dr.
Pirngadi Hospital experienced DRPs. The mean age of the patients was 50.62 ±
0.37 years and was dominated by 3B breast cancer patients. Total DRPs that
occurred 77 cases with of 1.18 ± 0.152. The most frequent types of DRPs that
occurred were adverse drug reactions 30 cases (39.0%), need additional drugs 26
cases (33.8%), too low a dose 10 cases (13.0%), drugs without indication 7 cases
(9.1%), too high a dose 3 cases (3.9%), and ineffective drug 1 cases (1.3%).
Conclusion: The incidence of DRPs in management of breast cancer patients
remains high.
