Improving The Literacy Movement Through Library Management of Deli Tua State High School 1 Deli Serdang District
Abstract
The background of this research is the current condition of SMA Negeri I Deli
Tua is library that is rarely visited by teachers and learners. This is because the
library does not run in accordance with National Library standards. A red color
is found which indicates the need of special intervention. In 2023, the data of
Education report of SMA Negeri I Deli Tua indicated a moderate level of literacy
rate. However, it also indicates a significalll decrease by 34,15%, and a decrease
in numeracy ability by 48,78% compared to the previous year. Therefore, this
research tries to find why these problems occured by using the theory of library
management according to George F Terry viewed from its Planning,
Organization, Implementation, Supervision. Descriptive qualitative is used in this
research through Field Research. The results indicate that the library
management has not been conducted optimally due to separate system used by the
school for borrowing books, book data is not updated regularly on the website,
the lack of human resources, adequate trainings regarding library information
system management have not been received yet, lack of facilities and
infrastructure as well as low in budget for library management to improve the
literacy movement.
