The objective of this research is to analyze the phenomenon of trust issues in
marriages in the millennial generation in Medan, its impact, and the attitudes of
the millennial generation in facing trust issues in marriage. The research uses the
theories of intrapersonal communication, interpersonal communication,
communication psychology, family psychology, intercultural communication, and
new media. The paradigm includes constructivism with phenomenological methods.
The research object is trust issues in marriage and the research subjects are the
millennial generation. There are 6 informants and three triangulation informants,
with the information yielding saturated data. The data are collected by conducting
in-depth interviews and observation. The results of the research show that trust
issues in marriage are caused by a lack of effective information between the new
couple which causes conflicts and trauma from the cheating on one's spouse, rude
behavior, and no blessing from parents. This phenomenon is also influenced by the
lack of the role of family shift of value in marriage culture and the negative impact
of social media. Trust issues in marriage cause difficulty in self-open heartedness,
marriage postponement, and changes in marital values. Meanwhile, developing
positive attitudes to avoid similar experiences can improve communication with
one's spouse, increase trust, be selective in selecting a spouse, and be positive
thinking.
