Perspektif Komunikasi Perempuan Suku Aceh dalam Menentukan Kuantitas Mahar di Kecamatan Titeue Kabupaten Pidie Provinsi Aceh

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the communication process of Acehnese women in determining the amount of dowry, the role of the Acehnese woman's family in deciding the dowry quantity, and the communication strategies employed by Acehnese women and their families in this determination. The theories used in this study include interpersonal communication, family communication, intercultural communication, and dowry. The research method applied is qualitative. The study involves 6 informants: 3 married informants and 3 unmarried informants who are in serious relationships (heading towards engagement), as recorded by the Population and Civil Registration Office of Pidie Regency. Data collection was carried out through interviews and observations. The results show that the communication process among Acehnese women in determining the dowry amount involves effective communication between the women and their families. The role of the Acehnese woman's family in deciding the dowry amount is based onthe parents" obligations to their children. The communication strategy of Acehnese women and their fanilies in determining the dowry involves discussions within the woman's family, which are then conveyed to the man's family, leading toa final decision regarding the dowry amount and whether 0 proceed with the marriage. The findings indicate that the criteria for the man are the main consideration in choosing a partner, rather than his ability to provide a high dowry that does not meet the criteria.
