dc.description.abstract | Background: Dental caries occurs when there is an imbalance between demineralization and remineralization processes happening continuously. Remineralization is essential to restore minerals in the teeth and prevent further demineralization. Barangan banana (Musa paradisiaca Colla) is known for its properties in preventing dental caries. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the effect of nanoparticle paste from barangan banana peel on the increased calcium level on the surface of enamel at concentrations of 1%, 2%, and 3% .. Methods: This was a pre-experimental study with a pre-and post-test control group design consisted of three stages: identification, preparation of barangan banana peel nanoparticle paste, and measurement of calcium level on the enamel surface. The samples used were premolar teeth, divided into five groups: group 1 (blank paste, negative control), group 2 (CPP-ACP paste, positive control), group 3 (1% nanoparticle paste), group 4 (2% nanoparticle paste), and group 5 (3% nanoparticle paste). All samples were immersed in demineralization solution for 96 hours and incubated at 37°C. Subsequently, the paste was applied for 4 minutes to the demineralized enamel surface, immersed in artificial saliva at 37°C, and incubated for 7 days. Analysis was done using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS). Results: SEM photo analysis showed porosity closure and smoother enamel surfaces in all treatment groups (2-5), while no changes were observed in group 1. The AAS results showed that the blank paste group experienced an increase of 2.99 ppm, the CPP-ACP group by 36.17 ppm, the PNKB 1% group by 21.64 ppm. Conclusion: The application of banana peel nanoparticle paste on the enamel surface for 7 days can affect the surface. | en_US |
