This study aims to analyze the cansiracton of tramatic marriage realities in early
adult in Medan City following their parents’ divorce within the context of
intrapersonal communication. It also aims to examine the forms of traumatic
marriage experiences in early aduls in Medan City after their parents’ divorce within
this context. The theories utilized in this study include reality construction theory,
family communication theory, intrapersonal communication, reasoned action theory.
Intrapersonal communication, social judgment theory, trauma theory, marriage
theory, divorce theory, and early adulthood theory. The research adopts a
constructivist paradigm with descriptive quantitative method. The study includes five
informants, two aged 24, two aged 25, and one aged 19. The object of this research
the construction of marirage realities and traumatic experiences in early adulthood.
The findings indicate that four informants perceive marriage as complicated,
burdensome, and not a life goal, while one informant views marrige as a happy and
purpuseful life goal by shitfing from a subjective to an objective reality. Three
informants experienced complex marital trauma, while two experienced simpler
trauma. All informants expressed fear that their future marriages might fall like their
parents’.
