dc.description.abstractThe rapid advancement of technology in modern times has a great influence in various aspects of life, including the world of education. In November 2022, a chatbot application or ChatGPT was released by an artificial intelligence research laboratory. The use of ChatGPT has become popular among students, especially in learning activities in recent years. The use of ChatGPT has many benefits such as translating text between languages, summarizing information, answering questions informatively, and can even produce creative texts such as written works, essays, poems and stories with little or no special training in the execution of tasks given to ChatGPT. Therefore, the use of this technology must be addressed wisely to avoid ethical issues, copyright and plagiarism. This study aims to determine what factors influence the use of ChatGPT by University of North Sumatra students in education. By using the Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) method which can effectively build complex research models with many variables and indicators. The modified UTAUT2 model will be used as a variable for the PLS-SEM method. This research uses primary data. The findings of the results of the structural analysis of the model in this research test state that there are 8 hypotheses of the relationship between variables tested in the study, of which 4 hypotheses of the relationship between variables are accepted because they have a t test value that is above 1.96 and indicates that they have a positive significant relationship and 4 hypotheses of the relationship between variables are rejected because they have a t test value that is below 1.96 and indicates that they do not have a significant or negative relationship. The benefit of this research for the university is to pay more attention to the use of artificial intelligence technology such as ChatGPT by always checking the work of student writing whether it is made of artificial intelligence technology or not.en_US
