dc.description.abstractThe cultivation of coffee from upstream to downstream has not been established which ca11 be seen from the coffee prouction at Rikit Musara village between 60 kg and 800 kg with the average of 2 hectares of each grower. Cultivation should be carried out from upstream to downstream, according lo the Permentan (Decree of the Minister of Agriculture) and Good Agricultural Practices (GAP). Arabica coffee now becomes famous with its specific taste throughout the world The purpose of this research is to find out and analyze the cultivation of Gayo Arabica coffee and the institutions of coffee farmers in increasing its productivity. It is also aimed to find out the strategy of empowering coffee farmers for increasing their productivity at Rikit Musara Village, Permata Sub-district, Bener Meriah Regency, Aceh Province. The research uses descriptive qualitative method for exploration and taking a picture of social condition completely concerning the cultivation of Gayo Arab/ca coffee and the institutions of coffee farmes in increasing its productivity at Rikit Musara Village. The data are collected by conducting observation, in-depth Interview, and FGD to analyze cultivation and the institutions of coffee farmers in increasing coffee harvesting. The result of the research shows that coffee farmers cultivate the coffee from upstream to downstream well so that they can produce two Jons of green beans in 011e hectare; they seem to be developed. professional, and prosperous. The community empowerment strategies can be seen from three aspects: firstly. Environmental Upgrading which includes 1) Organic coffee cultivation program, 2) Training about the Impact of using pesticides, 3) Counseling about the impact of environmental damages. and 4) Program of organic coffee sale in high price. Secondly, increasing coffee farmers' knowledge which includes 1) Comparative study, 2) Training coffee farmers· skills, and 3) Cooperating with the related agency to improve human resources. Thirdly, Institutional upgrading which includes 1) Applying lnstitutional values and norms, 2) Achievement target. 3) Effectiveness and collaboration, and 4) Agricultural counseling.en_US
