Background: Tuberculosis (TB) patients with proper knowledge will understand the disease, take care of themselves, and maintain health and hygiene in order to reduce the spread of TB, improve patient attitudes and prevention of TB.
Objective: To determine significant differences between the characteristic of respondents and knowledge, attitudes, prevention of TB, and family support of the respondens regarding TB disease as well as the relationship between knowledge and attitudes, prevention of TB, and family support of the respondens for TB disease at the Sering Medan health center.
Methods: It was a cross-sectional descriptive study with a random sampling used the questionnaires to assess knowledge, attitudes, prevention of TB, and family support. This research was conducted from October 2023 to January 2024 at the Sering Medan health center.
Results: A total of 86 patients participated in this study (respondent rate 89.58%) The majority of participants were male (52.3%); aged 18-35 years old (37.2%); senior high school (50%); unemployed (43%). The level of knowledge was good (44.18%), the level of attitude was adequate (52.32%), the level of prevention of TB was good (47.67%) and the level of family support was good (95.34%). Based on the Kruskal Wallis test, there was a significant difference between the level of knowledge and education (p value<0,05). Based on Spearman's rho test, there was a significant relationship between the level of knowledge and prevention of TB with a low correlation (r=0.368).
Conclusion: The level of knowledge regarding TB was categorized as good, the level of attitude regarding TB was categorized as was adequate, the level of prevention of TB was categorized as good and the level of family support was good. Only education has significant difference with knowledge and and only prevention of TB has significant and positive correlation with the level of knowledge with a low correlation.
