Backgrounds: Curcuma domestica Val. rhizome is widely consumed and has the main compound, curcuminoids. However, studies on the safety of curcuminoid VCO extract consumption in pregnant women and fetuses have not been conducted. Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the teratogenic effect of curcuminoid VCO extract from turmeric rhizome in wistar rats. Methods: VCO curcuminoid extract was obtained using Microwave Assisted Extraction (MAE) method with VCO solvent. A total of 25 rats were divided into 5 groups: normal group, positive group (Gabapentin 48 mg/KgBW), and curcuminoid VCO extract doses of 400, 800, and 1000 mg/KgBW during the period of organogenesis, namely on day 6 to day 15 of pregnancy. On the 19th day, pregnant rats were anaesthetised and dissected. In the observation of T3 hormone levels in pregnant rats using ELISA method. The weight measurement of the rats was carried out from day 6 to day 19. Results: Based on the results of the study on ANOVA test of T3 hormone levels showed that the positive group and the VCO curcuminoid extract group after dosing 400, 800, 1000 mg/kgBW experienced a significant increase compared to the normal group (p <0.05). After measuring body weight during the administration of positive group and curcuminoid VCO extract group. Pregnant rats experienced a significant decrease in body weight compared to the normal group (p <0.05). Conclusion: VCO curcuminoid extract was shown to have an impact on the body weight of pregnant rats and T3 hormone levels therefore having a teratogenic effect on white rats.en_US
