Karakterisasi Paduan EPDM/Nr Sir-20 dengan Pengisi Arang Aktif Tempurung Kelapa (Cocos Nucifera) sebagai Peredam Benturan Pintu Kendaraan (Weather Strip)
Characterisation of Epdm/Nr Sir-20 Blend with Coconut Shell Activated Carbon Filler (Cocos Nucifera) as Car Door Impact Absorber (Weather Strip)
Abstract
Composite research of EPDM/NR SIR-20 blend with the addition of coconut shell activated carbon powder as a filler used as a car door impact absorber (weather strip). The weather strip was prepared by mixing SIR-20 natural rubber with EPDM synthetic rubber vulcanised by adding paraffin oil, stearic acid, ZnO, MBTS, sulphur and varying the filler of coconut shell activated carbon powder in the ratio of 10 phr; 20 phr; 30 phr; 40 phr and 50 phr. The blend was then hot pressed at 140°C and subjected to tensile and impact tests. From the tensile test results, the best ratio was 40 phr filler with a tensile strength value of 1.1995 Mpa, elongation 230,44% and modulus of elasticity 0,0052 MPa. The best impact test at 40 phr was 13.359 J/m2. EPDM/NR SIR-20 specimens with optimum filler content were subjected to FTIR, SEM and TGA analysis. The results of FTIR analysis showed no significant changes between EPDM, NR SIR-20, EPDM/SIR-20 and blends with optimum filler, there was only a shift in the wave numbers of several new absorption functional groups, and there wa a new absorption in blend samples with the addition of optimum coconut shell activated carbon powder at a wavelength of 1237 cm-1, which is the C-O group. The SEM results obtained show a homogeneous surface, although some clumping is still present. The results of the thermal properties analysis showed that the decomposition occurred at temperature of 524,18⁰C with a total mass loss of 66,05%.
