    Abstract
    Preliminary plant for the manufacture of benzoic acid from toluene and oxygen with cobalt acetate catalyst using Pressure Swing Adsober as an oxygen purifier with oxidation process: production capacity of 7,000 tons/year and operating for 330 days a year. The main process in this pre-designed plant consists of three stages, namely the raw material preparation stage, the oxidation stage, and the separation and drying stage. In the oxidation stage, one reactor operating at 150℃ is used. The amounts of toluene, oxygen, and cobalt acetate required to reach the annual production capacity are 1,325.0108 kg/hr; 686.4585 kg/hr; and 15.3105 kg/hr. The reactor used to form the designed benzoic acid has the following specifications:  Construction material = Stainless Steel type 316  Tank diameter = 1.178 m  Cylinder height = 1.473 m  Tank lid height = 0.196 m  Total height = 1.9 m  Mixer type = Flat six-blade open turbine  Stirring motor power = 15 Hp The plant to produce benzoic acid from toluene and oxygen with cobalt acetate catalyst using oxidation process is planned to be established in Kepanjen Jatimlerek village, Plandaan District, Jombang Regency, East Java, with a total plant area of 25,878 m2. The water requirement for this plant is supplied from the Brantas river as much as 40591 kg/hour. The planned organizational form of company is a Limited Liability Company (PT) with a line and staff organizational structure, and a total of 211 employees. The results of the economic analysis on the preliminary of this plant are as follows: 1. Capital Investment (CI) = Rp 1.005.042.949.234,- 2. Total Cost (TC) = Rp 848.028.529.167,- 3. Profit Margin (PM) = 27,5259% 4. Break Even Point (BEP) = 41,3710% 5. Return on Investment (ROI) = 23,0466% 6. Return on Network (RON) = 38,411% 7. Pay Out Time (POT) = 4,33 years 8. Internal Rate of Return (IRR) = 25,8510% Based on the results of economic analysis, it can be concluded that the benzoic acid plant from toluene and oxygen with cobalt acetate catalyst using oxidation process is worth to be established
