    Abstract
    Elderly are very vulnerable to undergo physical and psychological disorders. Due to cell structure and .function. Tissues and organ system will change along with getting older. Changes in the elderly can be the obstacles in psychosocial growth and development. The elderly who cannot fulfill these grow and development will potentially be the elderly with hopelessness, this is closely related to the feeling of regretfulness, shamefulness, or disappointment. This descriptive research is aimed to identify the elderly's psychosocial development and happiness index in the working area of Padang Bulan Public Health Center, Medan. The samples are 110 respondents, taken by using purposive sampling technique. The questionnaire is on respondents' characteristics, questionnaire on psychosocial development, and questionnaire of happiness index. The data are collected by using questionnaire psychosocial development and OHQ (Oxford Happiness Questionnaire) which has been translated to Indonesian. The result of the research shows that 90 respondents (81.8%) have achieved psychosocial development, and 20 respondents (J8.2%} do not. The result of happiness index shows that 93 respondents (84.5%) are in the category of happy, 9 respondents (6%) are in the category of somewhat happy, and 8 respondents (5.4%) are in the category of very happy. This research result is expected to be able to be used as the guideline for families to increase their care for the elderly, either in nursing care or active interaction and communication in order to support elderly psychosocial development and happiness index.
