The Effect of Administration of Nanoherbal Biwa (Eriobotrya Japonica Lindl.) on Cardiac Dysfunction of Doxorubicin-Induced Rats (Rattus Norvegicus)
Abstract
Biwa leaves (Eriobotrya japonica Lindl.) contain compounds that have potential as antioxidants. Research on the effect of administering nanoherbal biwa (Eriobotrya japonica Lindl.) on cardiac dysfunction of doxorubicin-induced rats (Rattus norvegicus L.) was carried out from November 2022 to February 2024. This research used experimental methods and a completely randomized design (CRD) with four treatment and five repetitions. Treatments consisted of normal controls who were only given food and drink ad libitum, positive controls induced by 1.5 mg/kgBW Doxorubicin, as well as treatment induced by 1.5 mg/kg BW Doxorubicin and administration of nanoherbal biwa at concentrations of 250 and 500 mg/kg BW for fourteen (14) days. After 14 days, heart function parameters were checked using an echocardiography device. The results showed that administering nanoherbal biwa with a concentration of 250 mg/kgBB had the potential to improve cardiac dysfunction based on observations of echocardiography parameters (LVIDd, LVIDs, ESV, EDV, and SV) and the histology of the rat heart, while the percentage of EF and FS decreased but was still within the between normal range. It can be concluded that administration of nanoherbal biwa in relatively high concentrations has not been able to improve heart function within normal limits and has not been able to improve the histology of the heart.
