The Influence of Emotional Intelligence on Work-Life Balance in Women with Dual Roles
Abstract
For married women, being part of the workforce gives them dual roles, namely the
role as a worker and the domestic role. When these two roles are not balanced with
each other, it will impact work-life balance. Work-life balance can be influenced
by emotional intelligence factors. This study aims to determine the influence of
emotional intelligence on work-life balance among women with dual roles in
Medan City. This type of research uses a quantitative method with a total of 130
respondents. The data collection method in this study uses the Schutte Emotional
Intelligence Scale (SEIS) as the emotional intelligence scale and the work-life
balance scale. The hypotheses in this study are H1: there is a negative influence of
emotional intelligence on the demands aspect of work-life balance; H2: there is a
positive influence of emotional intelligence on the resources aspect of work-life
balance. The results of the study indicate that emotional intelligence has a negative
influence on the demands aspects (WIPL and PLIW) of the work-life balance
variable. Meanwhile, the resources aspects (WEPL and PLEW) of the work-life
balance variable are positively influenced by emotional intelligence.
