The Influence of Parental Roles on Genital Personal Hygiene Needs among Adolescent Girls at MTs
Abstract
Adolescent girls are at a higher risk of experiencing reproductive organ infections during menstruation due to a lack of understanding of personal hygiene. Therefore, it is crucial for adolescents to maintain optimal personal hygiene, especially genital hygiene. One effective way to promote genital hygiene among adolescent girls is through the dissemination of information by key figures in their lives, such as parents. This study aims to examine the influence of parental roles on the genital personal hygiene needs of adolescent girls at MTs Muallimin Univa Medan. This research utilizes a descriptive correlational design with a quantitative approach, involving a sample of 81 adolescent girls. The study employs a probability sampling method with a proportionate random sampling technique. The findings indicate that the majority of parental roles are categorized as good, with most genital personal hygiene needs being met. The results of the Spearman rho correlation analysis show a p-value of 0,004, which is less than the significance level of 0,05, indicating a significant influence of parental roles on the genital personal hygiene needs of adolescent girls at MTs Muallimin Univa Medan. This study suggests that schools and parents should collaborate to enhance adolescent girls' knowledge about genital personal hygiene through health promotion activities and encourage its application in daily life.
